Hi!  It’s Jen from The Smitten Chicken.  I absolutely love the Farmhouse style (thank you Joanna Gaines)!  I am excited to share this quick and easy Farmhouse Valentine’s Pillow with you today.  You may notice, that it looks similar to my Farmhouse Patriotic Pillow that I shared last summer.  I think I am going to make one of these for every holiday now!  Don’t be surprised if you see another holiday Farmhouse pillow!  Would you like to make a Farmhouse Valentine Pillow too?

Supplies you will need:

HeatnBond Ultrahold for Dark Fabric

Oliso Mini Iron

SVG Valentine Pattern

XOXO Pillow Pattern

White Fabric (this is one of my favorites)

Black Fabric (this is my other favorite!)

Aurifil Thread

Pillow Form (10″x 18″)

Sewing machine

Farmhouse Valentine Pillow

Start by assembling the pillow.  Follow the pattern here from my patriotic pillow tutorial.  Cut out the pillow center.  Sew piece A to both sides of the pillow and press.  Then sew piece B to the top and bottom of the pillow and press.  Sew piece C to the sides of the pillow and press.  Then sew piece D to the top and bottom of the pillow and press.  I used Allison’s tutorial to install the zipper and add the back to the pillow.

After the pillow is assembled it is now time to add the text!  This is my favorite part!  I have created a PDF as well as an SVG.  If you have an electronic cutter then you can use the SVG to cut out the text.  If you don’t have an electric cutter, you can use the PDF.

SVG instructions:  Download the SVG file and open it in your electronic cutter software.  Cut out a piece of black fabric large enough to cover the letters plus a little extra.  Press the HeatnBond to the wrong side of the fabric.  Remove the paper backing.  Place on the mat of the electric cutting machine.  Cut out the text!  Press onto the pillow.

PDF instructions:  Download and print the PDF.  Keep in mind it is a mirror image!  Trace the text onto the paper side of the HeatnBond.  Press HeatnBond to the wrong side of the fabric.  Cut out each letter.  Remove paper backing.  Press onto the pillow.

TIP:  To get the text centered, I press the pillow in half leaving a faint pressing mark in the center of the pillow.  (you can kind of see it in my pic!)  This helps me keep everything centered.

And you are done!  There is no need to sew any of the text down.  Since it is HeatnBond UltraHold, it will keep the text in place without sewing it down.

This was my first time using HeatnBond UltraHold for Dark fabrics.  I love it!  The dark HeatnBond really blends in with my dark fabrics.  It is a new product and now one of my favorite Thermoweb products.  Have you tried it yet?

Thanks for following along today!  If you would like to see more of what I’m up to, you can check out my blog, follow me on Instagram, Facebook, and Pinterest and subscribe to my new YouTube Channel!

Chirp Out,

Jen
