LAYOUT DETAILS

EKK, those gnomes are so cute!!  Ok, on to the layout details and how this came together.

This layout has many steps that can take time to dry, so I am going to break it down for you on how to get the layout done in an easy and orderly way!  Unlike me, where I was all over the place!  I am inserting my step out pictures in the order that will make the layout go quicker and not necessarily in the order I did things.

Begin your layout by misting the background paper with the Dina Wakley mists in Apricot, Mineral and Heather.  These are very muted colors and just add a little to your background.  You will need to let this dry, so you can move on to creating the mountains while you are waiting.

Next, use the mountain range stamp to stamp several different colors of mountains.  I used Pink Fresh Inks, because they matched the paper collection, but you can use whatever inks you like. After stamping several, I then hand cut them out and placed them on my layout to get an idea of where and how many of them I needed.

I just kept hearing the phrase “there gold up in them there mountains” so I knew I had to do the brown range with gold foil on the tops!  LOL LOL  Using the stencil from the collection, along with Deco Foil Transfer Gel DUO and Purple Tape, I covered the mountain tops so that I could foil them once the DUO Gel dried.  I also used the same technique to apply the Gina K Glitz Glitter Gel in Turquoise Seas to the top of the teal mountains.  Set everything aside to dry!

Next, I went to work cutting out all the gnome parts.  The beards I used iCraft Easy Cut Adhesive adhered to cardstock.  Leaving the backing adhesive protective layer on, I then die cut the beards out.  Remove the protective backing and lay the sticky side down on top of the White Latte Flock Transfer Sheet.  Gently peel up the die-cut and reveal a flocked beard!

Moving on, die-cut the hats, noses, bodies, and feet.  I did the same technique above on the feet and noses using flock to cover them. For the hats, I used the DUO Gel and the stencil to add some flocked details.  It’s the same process as the foil, you just use flock.  There are also stamps for this, but I had everything out and thought the hats would be cut flocked!  NOTE: It was easier to place these on my Silhouette mat to hold them so that I could do them all at once!

HOW CUTE are these?!!  I just cannot get over it!  For example, foiled hats would be very cute also, but since my layout had a fall theme, the flock is cozy!

By this time the first items you worked on should be dry, so you can start putting together the background of the layout.  In the meantime, once you are done with this part, the gnomes will be ready to be flocked and pieced together.

I cut a piece of pattern paper to fit inside the border of my background.  I wanted a little contrast, so I took a piece of 6×6 paper in an ombre teal/green color and cut two strips, and then joined them in the middle, covering the entire width.  I knew my center placed photo and the title would cover the joined area.

In a similar fashion, I used the scene building part of the stencil to create a few inked hills to add to the mountain scenery.  I am not a card maker or scene builder, so I ended up cutting out my inked pieces to use!

Using my laminator along with foil, I foiled the brown mountains and loved how they turned out. Note the clear shiny DUO Gel. This tells you that you are ready to foil.  If you look at the hats above, that was right after the gel was applied.

I placed everything on my background to get a good idea of placement.  As a result of doing this, I ended up trimming down some of the mountains to get the look I wanted.  Then I went to town using the Gina K Adhesive Runner to attach everything to my layout.

LOVE how those mountain tops turned out, don’t you?!!!

Lastly, you need to finish your gnomes!!  I ran the hats thru the laminator with the flocked sheet to transfer the flock to the hats.  I ran the noses and feet thru my Gemini Jr. to transfer the flock to the Easy Cut adhesive, just like the beards were done.  So that I could use the “chillin” stamp as my title, I found a sticker that the stamp would fit on and stamp it with the darker ink I used for the mountain.

In conclusion, I had a lot of fun making this layout.  I won’t say I was organized, but hopefully, my steps above will help you if you want to create a similar project!

And again…how CUTE are those gnomes?!  LOL LOL  Have a wonderful, happy, crafty day!!!!
