Hello there!  It’s Andrea with you today.  I hope you are staying safe and healthy during these scary times!  What do you do to maintain your sanity?  Crafting has long been a way for me to escape, and it definitely is now more than ever!

Baby Congrats Cards

Baby Cards by Andrea Shell | stamps by Whimsy Stamps

Today I’m sharing how to create these two adorable baby cards with Flock and Glitz Glitter Gel.  Baby cards with the flock is a no-brainer because it’s so soft, just like a baby’s skin.  The glitter gel, though?  Well, every card can use some sparkle; besides, babies definitely bring lots of sparkle to the world, don’t you think?

Let’s start with that sweet koala card, shall we?  That cutie is from Whimsy Stamps Koala Cuteness set, which I colored with Copics.  While this set is not a baby set per se, I thought this image could work on a baby card.  (Query: Why do we use the phrase “slept like a baby”?  In my experience babies wake up too many times during the night, or at least mine did!)

Adding Glitter Gel to Blended Background

To create my background, I first blended an A2 panel of white cardstock with the following colors of Distress Oxide: Mermaid Lagoon, Blueprint Sketch, Chipped Sapphire, and Black Soot.  I sprayed the back of Whimsy Stamps Star Galaxy Stencil with Pixie Spray and used my Stencil Pal to spread Gold Glitz Glitter Gel through the stencil.  Oh my, but that sparkle is amazing in real life!

Creating a Flock Border

With the Tape Runner XL, I adhered a piece of White Latte Flock to white cardstock.  I die-cut a cloud border with Whimsy Stamps Grass & Cloud Edger Dies.  I used the same die set to cut a border from vellum.

Assembling the Card

Once my background was dry, I adhered the vellum cloud with Ultra Bond Adhesive (I applied it where the flocked border would hide the adhesive).  I added the flocked border with the Tape Runner XL and trimmed the excess borders off with my scissors.  With the tape runner, I adhered the panel to a white card.

I die-cut gold glitter cardstock with MFT Stamps Congrats Die and attached the word with Ultra Bond Adhesive.  I white heat-embossed a sentiment from Your Next Stamps Whatnot Sentiments Four onto black cardstock.  After trimming down the sentiment, I adhered it Gina K. Designs Foam Tape.  Finally, I popped up that sweet koala with foam tape and added some clear sparkle to the image.

Giraffe Baby Card by Andrea Shell | Baby Animals stamp by Whimsy Stamps

I couldn’t resist making another card with this fun giraffe stencil and the Tuscan Gold Flock!  They were meant to be together, don’t you think?  That sweet giraffe is from a retired Whimsy set called Baby Animals (Sorry, I didn’t realize the stamp set was no longer available when I created this card, but any cute critter will work). Again, I colored my image with Copics.

Stenciling with Flock

I first sprayed the back of Whimsy Stamps Giraffe Stencil with Pixie Spray.  After placing the stencil over some tan cardstock, I used the Stencil Pal to apply Transfer Gel to the panel.  Once the gel was dry, I covered it with a piece of Tuscan Gold Flock and ran it through my laminator twice.  Isn’t that flocked paper awesome?!

Creating Sun Rays with Glitter Gel

I blended white cardstock with Squeezed Lemonade Distress Oxide.  After applying Pixie Spray to Whimsy Stamps Sun Rays Stencil, I spread Rina K. Designs Hello Yellow Neon Glitz Glitter Gel with the Stencil Pal.  Once the piece was dry, I die-cut it with Whimsy Stamps Rounded Rectangles Dies.

I adhered my flocked paper to a white card with the Tape Runner XL.  I die-cut a white rectangle and attached it with Ulta Bond Adhesive.

I die-cut a grass border (blended with Mowed Lawn and Twisted Citron Distress Oxides) and a cloud border and die-cut both with the same rectangle die as my yellow background.  I adhered both borders to the background with the Tape Runner XL.  I stamped a sentiment in black and then adhered the panel to my card with Gina K. Designs Foam Tape.  I used more foam tape to add that sweet giraffe.

Thanks for stopping by!  I hope I’ve inspired you in some way with my projects.  Keep crafting and stay safe!
