Hey Therm O Web fans!  It’s Katrina from Paper, Scissors, Glue and Hybrid Too here on the blog today.  My layout today turned out nothing as I had planned.  I had unicorns and rainbows in my head and the unicorns ran off.  The rainbow stayed, although totally different than what I had imagined!

Starting The Layout

When I began, I had a picture in my head of a rainbow filled with stenciling of Glitz Glitter Gels in the color sections of the rainbow.  As you can see, it “kind of” worked out and then it kind of took an entirely different direction!

My first step was to divide my paper into equal parts and decide what colors of Glitz and ink I was going to use.  I created the triangles by using a T-square ruler and pencil. What I didn’t take into account was the fact my pencil marks were not going to erase well and I should have drawn lightly in the first place!  So, the problems began at the very beginning.  Also, geometry…I might have not done well in school with the subject and I felt it in this layout over and over!!!

When I picked ink colors, I made sure they were lighter than the Glitz Gel I would be using in that section. Once the inks were down, it was time to stencil the pattern inside each triangle. I held my stencil down with the iCraft Purple Tape.  I didn’t use Pixie Spray here for the fact my ink was still slightly wet and I was afraid when I lifted the stencil my paper would rip.

Putting The Background Together

My original plan was to fan all the pieces out from the center in rainbow order, but once I had them cut apart it did not turn out at all as I wanted it to.  So I ended up cutting the corner side from each triangle the same amount and created a strip that I could use.  It STILL wasn’t what I imagined, but at this point, I was in it for the long haul! I used the Terrific Tape to hold my pieces in place.

After I had the strips adhered down, I decided that black cardstock would make everything pop.  So I cut my rainbow mess (LOL) down to about 10.75 all the way around.  I just trimmed  .25 inch off each side, since just trimming two sides wouldn’t have worked.  Before placing on the black cardstock, I adhered some Foam Tape on the back to give it a little dimension.

Once that was done, I doodled a line with a white gel pen around the black cardstock. I have been in a black/white pen doodling mood lately!  The gel pen is a number 10 which creates a bold line.  To keep the pen free-flowing, I do store them tip down.  This seems to have solved my dried up white pen problems.

The next bit of business was working on that center section to get a look that I liked.  I pulled out some 6×6 paper and cut it in half to stretch it across the page.  After I did that I decided that I wanted to tone down the rainbow strips just a little, so I added some glassine paper trimmed down. Everyone knows, you are going to see adhesive thru that paper, so I had some of the Terrific Tape that I hid underneath those center strips and then I used some Pixie Spray on the parts that could be seen.  So far, it’s still sticking as I write this post!

To add other layers, I used the Memory Runner XL  along with foam adhesives and Zots.

I made sure to not cover all of the strips so that you could see all the different colors and the stenciling I had done on them.

Final Touches

Once I was done with the middle, I still wasn’t happy with the background and pulled out some pearl gems I have had forever and attached them with Ultra Bond.  I just put some glue out on some cardstock and then used a jewel picker and tweezers to dip the gems into the glue before adding them to my layout.

We won’t talk about how long this took me!  LOL  I got a little gem happy, but I still have gems left!  But I also love how it looks!

All that was left was to add my journaling which I did in the top center of my page with a black felt tip pen.

So the moral of my blog post is, don’t trash a project until you really think you need to trash it. And have fun with color, the Glitz Gels are great to create rainbow themed projects with!

Thanks for stopping by the blog today!!  Have a wonderful, crafty week!
